About Me
Talaria has provided me with not only an amazing opportunity, but also the chance to work with a professional mentor who has offered such helpful guidance and insight into the research field of study free of cost, which is something I had never experienced before!
Research Experience
The first 1-2 weeks I felt a bit worried as I had no prior knowledge about my topic and wanted to create a good paper. But throughout these first two weeks my mentor really helped with providing me with resources and advice during the data collecting period. One tip she gave was to use the website "notion" to organize my data which helped a lot when organizing and writing my paper. Throughout the program I became more confident in my ability to create a good paper as I met with my mentor each week and was able to receive advice while also having all my questions answered! Being a Talaria mentee has influenced me as I now have a new profound interest in conducting research in the future and working in the STEM field!
Mentorship Experience
I would not have asked for a better mentor! Heather was able to guide me throughout the whole process, answer questions, offer explanations and provide feedback on my writing. One thing I was impressed with was how well Heather could explain a scientific topic/project using everyday life, which was extremely helpful when trying to understand the data I collected.
Favorite Part of Talaria
My favourite part about participating in Talaria was getting the opportunity to work with a knowledgeable mentor and also being able to attend informative and fun events!
Who I Recommend Talaria For
I would recommend Talaria to a driven, motivated and curious student!
Advice for Future Applicants
My advice would be to go for it! I too was unsure if I should apply, however, Talaria was such an amazing experience unlike no other and if you are considering the STEM field it is a great opportunity to explore the research field and use the skills gained from this program in your future studies. Not to mention I had an amazing mentor who helped me each step of the way despite myself not having any research experience. Good luck and all the best!
