TSI’s goal is not to be selective but instead provide this research opportunity to as many people as possible. Unfortunately, the number of mentors is limited. In 2022, we accepted 90 mentees (13%) from a pool of 700 applicants.

Yes, we welcome all gender minorities.

Maybe. Be sure to clearly express why you want to attend TSI in your application. We welcome students who have faced other obstacles; one of the best answers we’ve read to why an applicant wanted to attend TSI is that the individual had social anxiety and felt like they could best pursue research in TSI’s brief, structured program.

Yes. Most TSI mentees do not have previous research experience.

Maybe. You must clearly explain why you specifically want to attend TSI in the application.

Of course. List as “Talaria Summer Institute” and provide a description that includes what research you did during the program under which mentor. It is also recommended that you attach your TSI paper to applications.

Yes, you may still apply. However, we do not have many mentors in non-medicine and non-science fields, so there is a lower chance of acceptance. We also welcome applications interested in interdisciplinary research.

Maybe. Usually, mentors can accommodate up to one week of absence, but you may feel rushed in the program.

Over half of our participants are not from the United States.

Yes. We have international chapters. However, participants must be fluent in English and willing to write their research papers and communicate with mentors in English.

No, we do not accept mailed applications.
