About Me

I'm Phoebe, a sophomore from North Carolina. I am passionate about computer science, particularly artificial intelligence and cyber security. In my spare time, I like to read, drink boba, and volunteer.

Research Experience

Initially, I was nervous about meeting my mentor and conducting research during the first 1-2 weeks of the Talaria program. Before speaking with my mentor, I was unsure of the topic I wanted to investigate. I was also concerned about completing the research process because this was the first research I'd ever done. I started feeling much more confident after my first meeting with my mentor because my mentor already has ideas for what I could research. She also went over the research process and how it will be finished.

After taking part in Talaria this year, I was clearer about what areas of interest I have and what I could focus on in the future. Talaria sparked my interest in quantum computing and its practical applications. Later on, I decided to take a quantum computing course to further my knowledge of quantum computing. Overall, taking part in Talaria this summer was the best decision I've ever made!

Mentorship Experience

Like I mentioned above, I was nervous about meeting my mentor at first, but our first meeting turned out to be even better than I had hoped. Dr. Mandal, my mentor, was extremely helpful and supportive. She advised me on the best course of action for my research and supported me throughout the process. I remained in contact with her even after Talaria ended, and she advised me on how I could continue my research.

Favorite Part of Talaria

My favorite part of Talaria is the opportunity to conduct research and all the valuable connections made over the course of the program. Through Talaria, I was able to meet other like minded people who are passionate about STEM and building a connection with my mentor.

Who I Recommend Talaria For

I would strongly recommend Talaria to students who are interested in STEM and want to expand their STEM knowledge but do not have the opportunity. Talaria is a fantastic opportunity for people to delve deeper into their areas of interest while also making valuable connections with others.
