About Me

Because of my mentor's flexible schedule, I have been able to participate fully with this program to practice research. I believe the support that my mentor has offered me has helped me overcome previous obstacles that made me unable or hesitant to participate in research.

Research Experience

At first, I felt hesitant and overwhelmed by the scientific language used in initial research articles that I read. Later, I grew more comfortable with the language used in research articles and my mentor helped me to work through my sources of confusion. Once I began writing the literature review, the project didn't feel as overwhelming, and I felt proud when my mentor congratulated me on my work. I am confident in saying that I was to become a scientific researcher in the future, and I have developed a stronger interest in exercise physiology, muscular dystrophies, and nutrition.

Mentorship Experience

My mentor helped me feel more confident in my researching/writing abilities, she gave me numerous sources to help me begin to research, she helped me properly cite my sources, and she reviewed my finished literature review. Most importantly, my mentor was helpful in providing me with a general outline for my literature review that served as a guide for what to write.

Favorite Part of Talaria

My favorite part of Talaria was learning about my mentor's research experience because it helped me to feel more confident and get an idea of what I want my eventual career to look like.

Who I Recommend Talaria For

I would recommend Talaria for student who is uncertain whether they want to pursue a career in science, but they are willing to explore the field, and they have maintained an interest in science.

Advice for Future Applicants

Don't be afraid to apply to Talaria. It's a great experience and the research is honestly what you make of it. It is really cool to be supported by a mentor who has experience in your research field of interest, and they can give you lots of resources to get you started.
